Every year, Furry Hearts rescues about 80 to 150 animals from the street, abused situation and meat markets and they end up in shelters, and like many shelters around the world we are overcrowded and underfunded. Every corners of the shelter is occupied by a cat or a dog. Unfortunately, without enough homes to take them in, we have had to refuse taking in dogs and cats in need. Fostering is one of the most powerful ways to save these animals, offering them a second chance at life in a loving home. By fostering one of our shelter dog or cat, you provide temporary care, train them for home life, and prepare them for adoption into a permanent family.
Teaching Love and Compassion
Shelter animals often have histories of neglect, abuse, or abandonment. As a foster caregiver, you play a crucial role in teaching them that humans can be kind, loving, and trustworthy. Through patience and gentle interactions, you help them overcome fear, anxiety, and trauma. Over time, they learn to trust people, enjoy companionship, and develop bonds that will help them transition into their forever homes.
Training for Home Life
Some shelter animals have never lived in a home, so they need guidance to adjust to domestic life. As a foster parent, you can teach them essential skills such as:
House Training – Helping dogs learn where and when to relieve themselves, or teaching cats to use a litter box.
Leash Training – Teaching dogs to walk on a leash properly, making outings and future adoptions smoother.
Basic Commands – Introducing simple commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come” to improve their behavior and sociability.
Socialization – Exposing them to different people, pets, and environments to build confidence and reduce fear.
These lessons are essential in making the animal more adoptable, as well-trained pets are more likely to find permanent homes quickly.
Fostering Saves Lives
We are now operating at full capacity, meaning that without foster homes, many animals are left without options and we can not take them in. Fostering provides a safe and nurturing space, reducing our overcrowding and increasing the chances of adoption. It also allows shelters to take in more strays, saving even more lives. By opening your home, you give an animal the chance to thrive and find the love they deserve.
Fostering Abroad
IF you live abroad and wish to help and foster, we will assist in bringing the animal to your location and make sure the pet has all vaccines and documentation to enter the country. We will also send you videos and photoes to help you choose the pet that is right for you.
A Rewarding Experience
Fostering not only benefits the animal but also brings immense joy and fulfillment to the caregiver. The experience of watching a frightened stray transform into a happy, loving pet is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that you played a vital role in their journey to a forever home makes every challenge worthwhile.
By fostering one of our rescued dog or cat, you become their bridge to a brighter future. If you’re unable to adopt, fostering is one of the most meaningful ways to make a difference in an animal’s life. Consider opening your heart and home—because every pet deserves a chance to be loved.
